Am I Becoming a Daylily Addict?

I like it the way another gardening blogger put it..."I am totally, most certainly, quite positively not addicted to plants...addictions are things you need to get over...and, well, I have no intention of getting over plants! There!" ~ Gotta Garden Blog.

So let's just say I am a newbie at this and really starting to get interested in daylilies.  There thousands of varieties to choose from and I can't seem to stop adding to my collection.  So here are a few more daylilies that will be coming in the mail once May arrives...

Thanks to Blue Ridge Daylilies on eBay I have access to all sorts and varieties of daylilies. Now if only my budget were as large as their selection we'd be good!  Nah, I think so far I have started off with a great collection of Daylilies for 2010.  So much to look forward to this year!

Orders for 2010

I am going to try and list all of my plant and seed purchases for this upcoming season of 2010. This should be an exciting year in the garden as I have ordered some exotic daylilies. I have all sorts of seeds waiting to be planted- once the snow melts and the threat of frost is over! Larkspur, double and multi color poppies, forget-me-nots, Digitalis Giganteum (foxglove), Balloon flower (fresh from mom's garden.) I also ordered a few Bearded Iris varieties which I will also list, but probably won't see these bloom till next year. All these pictures I post will be ones from the catalog- and with some hard work in the garden- I hope to have similar pictures this summer! I must say being a gardener is even fun in the winter as this is the time when I spend lots of time with my nose stuck in every gardening book from the library I can find. Also it's a perfect time to look through online catalogs and dream of what my garden could look like this summer. Shopping never gets boring, and there is no such thing as buying too many plants!

In the Children's garden

Christmas is done and gone, and now is about the time I get excited about spring and all the preparation that goes along with the coming months. I can't help but think how glorious spring will be after planting 300+ bulbs this past fall. Spring is always full of surprises as once forgotten plants emerge from their hibernation. It gives me inexplicable joy, just even thinking about it! It seems the more I read about gardening, my passion for it grows. It gives me this energy I can't get enough of.

A recent visit to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens reinforced my love for gardening. What an amazing establishment! It is a gardener's haven- even in dead winter. My passion for gardening has become much larger than my gardening budget and yard, so I need to look for other ways to satisfy this need. I came across the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, and realized where could I satisfy that need in a more appropriate place than here? How wonderful it would be to take care of something so vast and beautiful- to contribute to something much larger than myself! Which reminds me, I need to e-mail the volunteer coordinator. It is true when people say, "Gardening is an obsession." I told Scott the other day, "I wish my severe passion and obsession for gardening actually made me money." Maybe one day I will get there...

Look at the trees, look at the birds, look at the clouds, look at the stars... and if you have eyes you will be able to see that the whole existence is joyful.  Everything is simply happy.  Trees are happy for no reason; they are not going to become prime ministers or presidents and they are not going to become rich and they will never have any bank balance.  Look at the flowers - for no reason.  It is simply unbelievable how happy flowers are.  ~Osho
